這種重語言形式而輕內(nèi)容的傾向，也和實際的閱卷過程息息相關(guān)。全國每年有幾百萬份試卷，一篇作文的評分時間是30-40秒，這就決定了在閱卷時沒有時間成本去細(xì)究內(nèi)容層面的邏輯是否嚴(yán)密連貫，論點是否新穎獨到，只要沒有明顯的硬傷即可。
其次，考研英語作文的命制風(fēng)格也與其評分標(biāo)準(zhǔn)相適應(yīng)，究竟是先制定了作文評分標(biāo)準(zhǔn)再命題，還是先命制題目再制定評分標(biāo)準(zhǔn)，是一個先有雞還是先有蛋的問題，已不得而知。但是可以明確的是作文題目命制風(fēng)格和評分標(biāo)準(zhǔn)高度一致，下圖是近五年的英語一作文真題。
近五年的考察的話題分別是“以身作則”“實干”“直面挑戰(zhàn)的勇氣”“堅持”“習(xí)慣（或時間管理）”。可以看出，都是一些較為抽象和宏大的品質(zhì)，對比雅思寫作題目，比如“很多人從鄉(xiāng)村遷往城市，你從多大程度認(rèn)為這是一個好的趨勢？”，要完成這樣一篇開放式作文，大部分同學(xué)能思考出相應(yīng)中文觀點就很不容易了，更不要說有相應(yīng)的詞伙積累（例如shortage of labour, job opportunities, improve living standards, consumer goods, public services等）來支撐自己完成論點的組織了。但是好在考研英語作文題目足夠地抽象和宏大，不用去討論太具體的事物，并不需要大量的知識儲備，內(nèi)容層面和思維難度要求比較低。
最后，從實際情況來說，真正具有英文寫作能力的考生屈指可數(shù)，我和大家一樣，從小到大學(xué)的都是中國式英語，深知我們的英語教學(xué)里對寫作的忽視。命題專家肯定比我們更了解這個事實，如果用類似于雅思作文這種開放式作文題目來考察大家，就相當(dāng)于用高中議論文題目去考察小學(xué)生，這樣的結(jié)果就是考生上了考場現(xiàn)編，絕大多數(shù)作文都慘不忍睹，對于選拔性考試來說，這種結(jié)果顯然是不可取的。

特點1、重格式，不輕內(nèi)容
應(yīng)用文的大作文的一個很大區(qū)別就是重格式，規(guī)律性強。格式和套路不對,一般會給閱卷老師留下很不好的印象。例如：信件一般不需要題目，通知和告示卻需要，如20xx年的題目Volunteers wanted。不只題目，還有客套話以及署名等。例如：公務(wù)信函中的稱呼，一般而言，如果是不認(rèn)識的人，稱呼為敬詞+尊稱。例如，Dear Sir or Madam 或To whom it may concern;如果是寫給關(guān)系正式的某團體中的具體人，稱呼為敬詞+尊稱+名。例如，Dear Mr. xx或Dear Ms. xx;對于關(guān)系較親密的人可以直呼其名(Dear)Peter等。這都是有規(guī)律可循的。
特點2、輕思想，重交際
